If he is gonna do the whole GTR thing, he might as well go all the way instead of half ass it with the chevy/cobalt signs.

Ahh, it’s hard to forget that one time GM went batshit insane and built an AWD 600HP Cobalt capable of taking down a Ferrari.

You’d think that 1 of 1 special would be good enough to redeem the Cobalt name. But you’d be wrong.

I want there to actually be a Cobalt with four turbos and like the longest zoomies known to man coming to the back. Sadly, this is not that.

Love it! Reminds me of how when the Pontiac GTO came out and looked only slightly nicer than the Cobalt, especially from the rear. But since Pontiac only sold 12 of them, my comparison usually fell on deaf ears.

So that’s how you make a GTR look good.

You’re comparing the Cobalt and GTO? 0.o Or are you referring to the G5? (Pontiac badged Cobalt)

Cobalt and GTO. Never mind, it wasn't the taillights that were similar, it was the overall body shape. But the Cobalt wasn't exactly a bad looking car, especially compared to the Cavalier it replaced.

I think you might need your eyes checked, friend.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

2 doors and 4 wheels are the only real similarities here. The GTO is longer, lower, and has a much different greenhouse.

It’s like I always tell people with Cobalt SS’s. No matter how fast it is, it will still always be a Cobalt. It’s like having a 300hp Cavalier, only slightly nicer.

i had a 91 cavalier z24, and it even had the Flowtie

Kinja'd!!!

For a boxy car I found the old z24 good looking. even the 88 z24 or RS where not to bad

No, I definately see it too. Roof, windows, hood area, and overall shape are very similar.

ahahahahaha! That makes me laugh. I would totally consider doing that if I owned a GTR.

Thanks for this. (My GTO is also black). Definitely not seeing any real similarities either, I guess the side window profile could be considered ‘derivative’, but with that logic, the Cobalt and Mustang look pretty similar too... haha

lol. Not saying you’re wrong, but I guess I’m just not seeing it. If I was going to compare the Monaro/GTO with any other GM product, I’d say it more closely resembles a Monte Carlo. But again, only in the overall shape and proportions.

Kinja'd!!!1

I’d agree with that...but IIRC, the MC was already axed when the Monaro was sold here, right? I’m fuzzy on my GM history. Deep down, I didn’t personally think they looked that similar, but more about how the general public wouldn’t notice a GTO amid a sea of Cobalts unless they looked really hard. That’s a big part of what I liked about the GTO, though — it’s low-key except to car people. Factory sleeper, just like the Commodore/G8.

Ah, okay. I see what you’re getting at. GTO’s are definitely sleepers from a distance. Especially when they’re painted black or silver.

It’s the last gen Cavalier the GTO most resembles, imo. Though similar, the GTO’s form is better resolved, especially from rear 3/4 views. Love my GTO; have no desire to own a Cavi!

I think I like your car better... I was trying to find one in Impulse Blue, but an LS2 6spd with 12K miles is hard to pass up. haha

(Though I do prefer my red interior)
